How approximate matches are ranked
The input and each stored sRGB reference are converted to CSS-compatible CIELAB: sRGB is linearized, transformed through XYZ D65, then adapted to D50 with the Bradford transform. Candidates are sorted by CIE 1976 Delta E (DeltaE76) in D50 CIELAB. A lower ΔE76 score means the two stored digital values are closer; 0 means identical sRGB values.
ΔE76 here is a transparent ranking aid, not a confidence percentage or a measurement of ink, substrate, finish, lighting, monitor calibration, or a physical Pantone swatch.

C = Coated (glossy paper), U = Uncoated (matte paper), M = Matte. The same Pantone number on different paper types requires different formulas.
This tool focuses on common references. If a specialty, newer, or uncoated reference is missing, use the official guide or your printer's production software for the final value.
